One of the main reasons that roses are grafted is to make a larger, and
therefore higher priced, bush more quickly for commercial growers. Growing
your grandmother's roses from cuttings would work just fine, and although
slightly slower, would ultimately be more satisfactory. You might want to
get in touch with a local chapter of the American Rose Society for help and
support.
