Re: Beloperone (shrimp plant)

Barb -

I have had much luck in rooting various "shrimp plants" (Justicia) and there
like (Pachystachys) by taking 4-6" cuttings, stripping the bottom leaves
(leaving only 2 to 4 leaves) and placing them in 1/2 perlite, 1/2 vermiculte
medium. I keep them constantly moist but not swampy. They rooted and put on
new growth in no time. I have also been known to simple place my cuttings in
the ground in the garden or in the pot with the mother plant and they have
rooted fine.....but you have to remember to give them an extra drink of water.

I know this doesn't sound too technical but it is effective.....I've never
used a rooting hormone on these.

I am currently rooting a "shrimp plant" with lime bracts and a pink flower.
It has been about 10 days and the cuttings are already putting on new leaves.
These will probably try to bloom soon but I will pinch the buds off until
the cuttings become bigger. I find that if you allow your cuttings to bloom
too soon they tend to get stumped.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!!!!!!
