Re: Yellow Flowered Echinacea
<Better spell that out for me, Kristi!! Do they go in the freezer or the
fridge? How should they be 'packaged' when they are being cold
conditioned?>
Sow the seeds (however you normally do it), in moist soil-less mix in
pots or flats, and cover or mix the seed with moist vermiculite in zip
lock bags, whatever...and provide temperatures in the range of -4 to
+4C. This is the ideal temperature for cold conditioning (about fridge
temperature). Or put your pots outdoors now, if you are in an area that
will still receive at least 6 weeks of cold temperatures. Or a cold
garage, cold cellar. Whatever you have.
The seeds MUST be in a moist substance. Dry seeds in fridge or freezer
does nothing to stratify the seeds.
Then after the 6-8 weeks take out of the cold and they should sprout
within a few weeks. If they are outside, they will naturally sprout as
temperatures rise.
Good luck
