Re: Fungus gnats...long...


one small addition, If the flats are allowed to dry out a bit between
waterings you will have a much lower population of fungus gnat and
shorefly. (shorefly are usually BT resistant, as are some of the fungus
gnat strains)
Marathon, a systemic insecticide used for aphid control also seems to
much reduce fungus gnat and shorefly populations. 
We have tried enstar with little success Diazinon drenches also kill
larva but we hesitate to use it.

Larva also do not seem to like high soluble salts levels in the media,
this makes sense since most peat bogs are rather low in nutrients.
(apply lots of fertilizer)
