Greetings all!
I am in the midst of some propagation research on katsura trees,
yes both of them, Cercidiphyllum japonicum and C. magnificum. The focus
is on seed propagation.
The literature is a bit vague and members of the industry do a
variety of different things to the seed in order to germinate it.
There is no dormancy that needs to be broken in order to induce
germination, although we have found that a short period of stratification
has promoted germination, as does light when seeds have not be stratified
(although only marginally).
Our research and results are a bit more in depth than what I have
stated above. I would be interested in trading information with anybody
on this list who may have/desire info on the propagation, production, and
or cultivation of this fine tree.
Many Thanks
Michael
