I think what happened when you put your oxalis outside is it wasn't
hardened off to the conditions after being indoors. The yellow clover-like
plant sounds like woods sorrel to me. It grows all over our place. I like
it, too.

Oxalis would probably do very well in the ground where you are. You might
try part shade though, to protect it from the hot afternoon sun.
