Azalea Seeds

Folks,
I know that azaleas produce seed.  When is the best time to collect them?  Also, can I pollinate different cultivars and expect seed development within a reasonable time period.
 
I've searched the NET, but no site tells me these facts.
 
If I must, I will purchase azalea seeds.  More fun to do it myself if possible.
