Re: light for seedlings in greenhouse vs house

Hello,

I agree with Marge and Glider. Even here in Texas I start seedlings during
the winter indoors and grow the seedlings under lights until the weather
warms up enough to put them in the unheated greenhouse. They do better in
the greenhouse because the conditions are more natural: light, air flow,
temperatures. If the nights get pretty cold, say in the mid-30's, even the
warm season crops like tomatoes, peppers and the like do just fine.

By the time I put seedlings in the greenhouse, I also leave seeded flats in
there to sprout. The cool nights don't seem to affect germination time
because the days can get so warm: 70's and even low 80's. I do keep the
seedling flats covered with plastic domes to keep moisture in and add a
little extra protection from the cold nights. It's important to remember to
remove the covers when the seedlings sprout or they'll cook in there in the
daytime.
