Have any of you had disasters with your greenhouse or light stands or ... ?
Just curious. ;-)
A couple years ago, my cousin, a small grower in the country, lost everything
in her greenhouse. Her LP tank went empty over New Years and couldn't get
anyone to deliver until the next day. Lost all her cuttings and a new
shipment that had come in a few days B4!
A week ago, I thought I had lost everything too!
I have lights set up on steel shelving.
Fri. evening, I went down to water everything good b/c we were going away for
3 days. I noticed the shelves were getting kind of wobbly so went up to do
supper & think about how to stabilize them. I shouldn't have b/c half-way
through dinner - CRASH! Of course, dirt was Everywhere! I couldn't cry - I
was so devastated and angry with myself.
We picked up and replanted everything we could. Hollyhocks, Lupins, Foxgloves
and larger plants were easy because their roots had filled out the cell pretty
well. Other things were poked back in the cells as well as possible. Then
sifted through the dirt still left on the floor, finding a couple dozen more
babies. I was just sick but kept telling myself that most of the bigger
things should be OK and the smaller things looked pretty good too. In spite
of my fears, everything is doing very well.
On 2/9, I planted quite a few things according to instructions found at these
2 sites:
http://home.sol.no/~asles/sowing.htm
http://www.eskimo.com/~mcalpin/tm.html
Most things did well except for a 1/'2 doz. things that haven't germinated.
I only planted part of the pkgs. so want to restart these again. I've looked
at the databases to see what I might do differently this time but don't see
where I deviated greatly. Instructions seem pretty general & should have
sprouted like everything else. If any of you have any recommendations, I
would greatly appreciate it. TIA

Oh -- one more question:
I am nearly out of promix to transplant seedlings to. I have a couple very
large bags of Miracle Grow potting soil that I bought in an Aug. close-out.
Since it contains fertilizer, I'm afraid to transplant to it b/c I generally
transplant when my seedlings are just sprouted & haven't gotten their true
leaves yet. Do you think I dare use it ?
Best wishes to you all --
