To my knowledge, all species germinate quickly at around 70 degrees.
Usually, I start mine outside in mid-winter with most of my other
perennials, and I find they usually germinate when daytime temperatures
get into the mid 60s.  So they're not damaged by stratification, but it's
not necessary.

Plant the seeds head-first into seed compost [I leave the tails on], and
cover with coarse sand or poultry grit.
