Re: Oriental poppies and yellow leaves
My questions are, which leaves are you referring to that are yellow? If
the yellowed growth is the true leaves, not the first growth, which are
not "true" leaves, something is happening. how are the newer leaves? If
the newer leaves are green, I wouldn't worry.
You can over fertilize, especially the seedlings. With substantial root
growth, but poor leaves, your fertlizer may be high in the middle
number.
I'd give them no more fertilizer and let them grow on their own awhile.
And get them outside in the sunshine and even out of the pots if you can
(they don't like root disturbances. AND let them dry between waterings.
In the garden, the oldest leaves on oriental poppies are often yellowed.
Maybe that these die off is natural as a kind of mulch for the roots
since they like poorer, drier soil??
Whatever, you probably know that the yellowed leaves will never green up
again, watch the new growth for health.
