I received an answer from www.garden.org
Osteomeles subrotunda is a slow-growing deciduous shrub native to China. It
prefers well-drained soil, full sun, and is hardy to around zone 7.
Slow growing might mean not invasive?
Sorry, having asked the question of the list I should have posted what I
found.
Zone 7 won't do for us but it is very attractive, like a very dwarf
contoeaster.
