Re: Vole Damage to Bulbs

I have a similar problem with squirrels (black pine, grey, and brown).  Last year I planted 300 bulbs (tulips, hyacinths, Snowdrops and Crocus) for what I thought would be a startling display in the spring under a buckeye tree.  I had only one bulb survive!  The squirrels, the cute little devils, ate them all.  No vole activity present and can't think what else would have done this.

This year I have planted a more modest number, but have tried a product called ROPEL, a liquid you soak the bulbs in for a short period of time, then plant.  The nursery did not have any experience with the product, but I was insistent to get blooms spring '98.

Yes, I feed the birds and squirrels via different methods.  I have had a tray of treated bare bulbs outside on planting stand for a month and as far as I can see none are missing or scattered.

The bottle is gone, but if you care for the company name, I'll be making a therapeutic trip to the greenhouse fairly soon and could get the name for you.
