I have just received three packets of Oplopanax
horridus seeds from Abundant Life Seed Foundation today, and the seeds are still
in the berries, so the seeds need to be extracted and thoroughly cleaned before
sowing as there may be/probably are germination inhibiting agents in the
fruit. The question is if this water cleansing will be enough, or if a few drops
of detergent is needed to clean off oily substances on the seed coat, like
Euonymus. If there is an oily layer. The reason I suspect there may bee is
because the packets had greasy stains on them, but maybe only the berries are
oily- but if the berries are I can't see why the seeds wouldn't be. Would a drop
or two of dishwashing detergent destroy the seed in case I would add detergent
to the water ? Maybe I willjust have to try both. There are two seeds in each
berry, so what ALSF states as being 15 seeds in their catalog is actually twice
as much. Does anyone have any comments I would be glad to hear
them.
