Angelo,
DeWitt and Bosland in their book "Peppers of the World" state that the
red savina habanero has been measured at 577,000 Scoville heat units
which places it as the most pungent pepper ever measured. However,
several other less known varieties (also C. chinense) may have a heat
range that equals or surpasses the red savina - they just haven't been
measured yet. Hope that helps.
