Hi Jean,
The Reference Manual of Woody Plant Propagation by Dirr says Callicarpa
seeds need no pretreatment. Seeds may be removed from pulp, but it is not
needed. The author has sown whole seeds in fall and had germination in
spring. I find seedlings that the birds have sown in the woods and in my
own yard. (zone 8) I transplant them to proper spots and thank the birds.
Dirr also says that softwood cuttings can be taken anytime between June and
September. 1000 ppm IBA-solution hastens and unifies rooting. Mist is
necessary. 7 to 14 days for root initiation. Sounds like sowing seeds is
far less work.
Good luck. Glenda
