Water Hyacinths

I have water hyacinths that are a lovely small light blue flower. They
bloom in a very sunny location in a small tub of water. Now that Fall is
here can anyone tell me how to store these for next season. Have tried
putting them in water in a cool back room, but that didn't work. (I forgot
to keep the water filled) Perhaps it is just better to buy new ones each
year?????? Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed. Thanks.
