I think I can help on some general points raised. I have tried seed of
Tulbaghia violacea and T.fragrans, and viability of these is not affected
by dry storage of a year or so. I'd agree that your unknown species are
likely to be attuned
to germinate in the coming rainy season, but I'd expect that it's OK to
store dry either for a week or two, to carry over to a convenient time
for you [irrigation is recognized as the seasonal rains.]
The most convenient way to handle borers is to freeze the seed for a few
days -- this will kill the insects, and should not affect dry seeds, even
of tropical origin [The exception would be very fleshy seeds, ie, with a
high water content, most of which should be sown immediately.
