There have been several replys to the question about rooting hormones.
1) a historical method to root plant cuttings is by use of the liquid form
soaking willow branches in water. This technique, while it still have some
users, is not predicable and is usually does not have reproducible results.
2) the auxins (plant growth regulator rooting hormones) are:
a) indole acetic acid (IAA): an unstable compound since it degrades quite
fast in the presence of light and heat. IAA is a natural product produced
in the leaf tips of growing plants
b) napthalene acetic acid (NAA): used for a limited number of plant
varieties. It is especially good for the propagation of YUCCA. It is a
syntheticly produced product which is the biologial simulator of the
natural growth regulator.
c) indole butryic acid (IBA): the most commonly used product. It is a
syntheticly produced product which is the biologial simulator of the
natural growth regulator. It is available in dry powder forms- usually in a
range from 0.1% to 1% and in liquid applied methods using 10-10000 ppm.
We will be going on line in a month with the web site
www.rooting-hormones.com. (i English).
In the meanwhile you can visit our sister site at www.rhizopon.com (in Dutch).
There is also a technical site at http://www.plant-hormones.bbsrc.ac.uk/
which has an interesting archive.
If anyone is interested in a text copy of the www.rooting-hormones.com site
we can e-mail to you (regret so far the graphics are only available by
snail mail ... let me know your snail mail address).
I will advise this group when the www.rooting-hormones.com goes on line.
