Re: Miscanthus sinensis

Rick,

I grow Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus'. Have several large clumps. I've
never planted seed on purpose, but it seeds around and a number of my
clumps are the result of not pulling the seedlings soon enough :-) I can
testify that this variety seeds true. I've never harvested or stored the
seed, but it appears that it germinates during summer from the seedlings I
find. I find some in early summer and more as the summer progresses, so
my guess is it likes the temperatures to warm up before it germinates.

If you harvest seed during winter or whenever it becomes ripe where you
are, I would think that it should be stored like most seed in a cool, dry
environment. I do not know if these require a cold period for germination,
but I rather doubt it.

Sorry I don't have more absolute info. for you. Hope this helps.
