Note to Robert who "knows his roots": I read with interest your post about rooting the different salvias. I've been keeping my T&M book here with me at work just to identify the various plants discussed on this list. I don't see any of the salvias you mentioned listed. Where did you get your plants/seeds? I'm partial to the salvias as they are very easy to grow from seed for me and provide wonderful blues and mauves. One other plant that roots in water are impatients. They almost will send out roots overnight. I've grown many a plant overwinter by cuttings like this to set out for the next summer season. Much cheaper than paying over $10-15 for a nice hanging basket or flat!
