The DEA will take action against people growing opium poppies!
Several years ago, the DEA "raided" a home in northern Idaho and pulled
up a few hundred opium poppies. The eighty year old couple that owned
the home had no idea the poppies were illegal to grow, and no charges
were filed. The couple had been growing them for years, and they had
naturalized around their property.
Oddly, they are very common in gardens in this area (although not as
many in one spot), but no one else has had a problem with the DEA.
