Colchisine-induced polyploidy

Hi everyone,

   I've been tinkering with the idea of trying to induce tetraploidy into
   various species.  I'd like to work on developing sterile cultivars
   of weedy species and make difficult-to-breed species easier
   to propagate.

   I know that work has been done in this field already, but at this point 
   I just want to 'mess around'.

   I understand that colchisine and oryzaline are often used to induce
   tetraploidy, but I have no idea how to do it.  Does anyone have any
   pointers and/or references that could help?
