I grow pink peony flowered and red single P. somniferum. If there was much
cross pollenating, I would have expected to see some red doubles, but
after many years, none have appeared.
By the way, the most diagnostic feature of P. somniferum is what is called
"clasping-leaves" ,in which the base of the leaf clasps around the main
stem.
