Hail damaged Hosta Advice Needed

Well, gang, we had the mother and father of fast and furious storms
come through this afternoon. Dumped incredible amount of 3/4" hail
and the intensity of the rain was hard to believe.

Fair amount of damage, but the worst are my poor Hostas who had just
decided to unfurl their leaves. Those still in tight noses are OK
and the ones who came out a couple of weeks ago have some damage, but
not severe, as their leaves had toughened...some damaged, but not
all.

However, those with tender leaves are pretty much shredded. Looks
like someone fired a load of buckshot at them.

Am wondering whether I dare simply cut them back to the ground. Have
never had hail damage before, so have not dealt with this. Hate the
thought of looking at those piles of shredded leaves all season.

What say you Hosta experts?
