Cindy there are a number of Virus infections that Lilies can get but I don't
think
that Orientals are any more prone to them than other liles. If you plant
virus tolerant
material and try to keep the sucking insects in your garden controlled it is
usually
not a problem. Make sure that if you do know that you have a Virus infected
plant that
you dig it up and throw it away (don't compost) because there is no cure for
it. If you
are saving it for seed make sure that you plant it far far far far away from
your other
lilies, and get rid of the Aphids. Plus if you don't give all
lilies good sun, air circulation and drainage, plus good fall cleanup they
are prone
to Fungal infection, but that can be controlled with good cultural practice,
planting
tolerant varieties etc etc. Or as a last resort chemicals.

The other thing Orientals like the soil a little more acid then Asiatics, so
I add
extra peat moss to the pot mix that I use.

now I want a lot more lilies!

There are never enough Lilies for me. I have over 150 varieties planted in
my garden right
now... and I still want more and in fact have ordered more for spring
planting along with the
COSTCO Oriental Lilies that I bought. More grass is going to have to die in
my yard this year.
