Re: Freeze protection


What I was wondering today is, why do people wish for wind during a cold
spell? I thought "protected" areas (where one might plant a plant that was a
zone less hardy) were wind-protected (and perhaps next to a warm wall).

Gee, I haven't seen Reemay that would protect more than 3 degrees.  A
friend figured each layer would protect by 3 degrees, so if the temp was
going to drop 6 degrees, for instance, she'd use two layers.  I think it
worked for her.  But remember that cold falls, and the temps you get from
the weather bureau are for temperatures 5 feet above ground level. It may
be 6 degrees colder at ground level than at the measuring station.  Margaret
