One states solution to 'invasive' list

* Florida lawmakers passed an FNGA-authored amendment banning local
governments from creating their own invasive plant lists. Instead, the
amendment orders Fla. Dept. of Ag. and Consumer Services to maintain an
official state list of invasive plants and noxious weeds. FDACS will
create
the list (to be reviewed every 2 years) with help from Univ. of Fla.
Inst.
of Food & Ag. Sciences. FNGA sought the legislation after Palm Beach
County
officials proposed to create an invasive plant list of more than 100
species
without the benefit of universally recognized science, said Ben
Bolusky,
FNGA exec. v.p. (407) 295-7994.
