[SG] under water

Susan writes that spring has finally come to central Illinois. Here in east
central Iowa, we've enjoyed a heady taste of spring -- temps in the low 80s
under a bright blue sky over the weekend. Now temps have dropped 40 degrees,
we've had a light snow and 2 inches of rain in less than 24 hours.

Our backyard is under water; can barely see the grass. Neighbors' yards are
flooded, too, and a few have water in their basements. Thankfully, we don't.
The plant room remains cozy.

Most of the hosta are above ground (but under water), ferns are creeping
out, daylilies and iris have burst through the soggy soil. Many other
perennials are up. Crocus are done blooming; tulips and daffodils are
budding. I hope all these plants don't rot in the cold, too moist soil.

Maybe this is the year of the water garden.
