Rhonda,

While the Grenfell book is without doubt better (at $30 US)
and the Schmid book is the hosta Bible (at $60 US)
and the Aden book is great on the coffee table (at $20 US)
(and no less valuable than the others)
rookies may find spending the only $9 or $10 on
HOSTAS by Mikolajski a more tolerable starting place.
The book has faults but until the American Hosta Society
produces as beginner's handbook similar to that
produced on daylilies by the American Hemerocallis Society
rookies might want to start with Mikolajski, but
they certainly won't want to stop there.
