The head grounds keeper, who by the way is
also a master gardener, and who
seriously practices IPM has the following recipe
for roses:
For each rose:
-1 1/2 cups of either alfalfa meal or pellets
-1/2 handful of 5 10 10
Apply 1 March and then every 6 weeks. The 1
March date is for Seattle, WA
I also use the following witches brew. I use it
on all container plants
plus dahlias and daylilies.
In a 32 gallon plastic garbage can add:
10-12 cups meal or pellets.
2 cups of epsom salts
1/2 cup chillated (sp ?) iron or favorite trace
elements
Let steep for 4 days at least, stirring on
occasion. Keep lid on can as
it will smell.
Also it is not recommended to use rabbit meal
as some
contain salt.
