  Rhonda:

    I have planted mine in an area that gets reasonable sun in the
spring (under several maple tress before they leaf out) and gets a
several  hours sun light in the summer (after the tress leaf out -
dapple shade as they may call it). In Ohio we have pretty serious black
clay which I have amended with humus and some sand to prevent water
logging the tree. Keep it watered in the summer and it has been doing
very well.

    Hope your gift tree does well. Keep us posted.
