Re: [SG] Welcome

Well - I've only been gardening for four years now. I started with an herb
garden and hit the ground running. I have more plants than I have space. I
am fortunate that I have full sun locations as well as full shade. Shade is
my challenge. I use to try to get only blooming things in the shade and have
learned thru failure that the foliage is much more important. I guess you
could describe me as a beginner plant collector. My shade gardens contains
different varieties of ferns, abutilions and alocasias. I've also put in
blettia, toad lilies, hostas and believe it or not...."house plants". I've
discovered that the "house plants" thrive in the ground. They give
interesting foliage and provide a lush growth. I usually take cuttings in
the fall in case I have winter loss. I just started to collect the various
Rex Begonia's......I cannot believe how big they get when in the ground.

Anyway - love my plants, love my garden and love propagating my plants. I
also love to read about plants....in four years I've collected about 100
garden books dating from 1886 to current. I guess you could describe me as a
bit of an obsessive gardener.

I was introducted to this shade page from a friend that I met in the garden
chat....I'm not sure how this works but am eager to learn.

Kemberly
