Here in our zone 7a garden, the fig 'Brown Turkey' survived without being
frozen back at all and is now loaded with developing fruit. It usually
freezes to the ground and fruits in fall. The Australian shrub Acnistus
(which has had a name change, but I can't remember what to) also had its
above ground parts survive and will probably bloom this year for the first
time ever. It also freezes to the ground. Elephant Ears (Caladium
esculentum) survived in the ground, but this happens fairly regularly.
Several Dutch amaryllis that were inadvertantly left in the ground over
winter are now sending up buds.
We have at last gotten some much-needed rain, but not nearly enough. Maybe
more later today....
