Re: [SG] Lilacs

What Barbara says is true, but oddly enough, 'Miss Kim' is doing quite well
for me in substantial shade once the huge oak on its south side leafs out.
She even blooms for me every year, tho' not as much, I suspect, as she
would given the full sun she'd really like. After the oak leafs out I
don't think she gets any full direct sun at all - more like dappled with
the odd morning ray penetrating under the tree canopy.

But, tho' the odds don't favor lilacs in shady spots, those of you in zone
7 with shady gardens just might want to give her a try - might do for you.
I also suspect I'm rather at the southern end of lilac land..don't they
actually prefer northern climates?? I'm also pretty sure that north of me
more sun would be required.
