Re: favorite shade garden book

I have 'American Horticultural Society's A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden
Plants'as well as the companion on gardening in general. They are
excellent, yet many cultivars are not listed. I'm very glad to have them
(Xmas gift from my spouse). I'd try www.BookFinder.com for any book since
they'll locate used and out-of-print copies at great reductions in price.
The following books are very different than an encyclopedia, so I guess it
depends what you're looking for.

It's been a while since I read it, but I remember greatly enjoying Ken
Druse's book, The Natural Shade Garden. Here's a link to Amazon with 8
customer reviews averaging 5 stars (wow!):

And let's not leave out the wonderful, charming, and delightful George
Schenk, The Complete Shade Gardener. Link to this book blurbs etc.:

One of my all-time favorite gardening books is Principles of Gardening, The
Practice of the Gardener's Art by Hugh Johnson. (It's not just about shade,
but let's not settle for blinders in this passion....) Hugh is a major wine
critic and writer, a Brit. Because of his public wine reviewing perspective
and writing focus, this book is written in an easily readable manner, yet
it's not light-weight and is fascinating. It takes slants on the subject I
haven't seen in other gardening books. It's is out of print(1996). I see a
used "Practice of the Gardener's Art" listed for $17.50 at
