Re: Trees - Oxydendrum arboreum


This is a beautiful tree, native to the Eastern U.S. with a handsome
form. The new leaves are bronze, then a rich green, ending brilliant
orange and scarlet in the fall.  The flowers are like those of
Arbutus menziesii (what is called Madrona in the U.S.), drooping
clusters of creamy white small bells in August.  It does best with
cool summers, acid soil, and lots of water.  Mine died of drought
before I realized that requirement.
