I need help with Impatiens please

I have a pot plant of common impatiens, growing about 9" tall, and they're
all growing straight up. The bottoms are starting to become barren. I would
like to cut them back, and hopefully have some drape over the side of the
pot. Just exactly how should I go about doing this? Can anyone help? They
get about 3-4 hours mid-day sun a day. Thank You
