The adelgid is a feared menace working it's way up the East Coast. Advise
your Mom to call the local Cooperative Extension office for a fact sheet. We
have not seen the adelgids here in upstate NY but have the fact sheets and
advice to watch the hemlocks, reporting any finds.
I think summer oil spray is the first thing done. I don't remember the rest
of the treatment plan. Hemlocks die from this infestation. What a shame to
lose a fine old tree.
