I grow Ligularies for their big beautiful foliage.  I wish all of them where
hardy enough to grow in my Zone 3 but I will grow the ones that I can.

Ligularies should do very well in a bog situation.  In fact if you wanted to
create your own bog, you could scoop out some of the soil, line it with
plastic
or find a naturally boggy area, fill it with all kinds of nice organic matter,
I would rotted leaves and peat moss, and add some soil, soak it really well
until when you took a handfull and squeezed it did not run water but was
moist, and then plant away, keeping it at that moisture level all the time.
I think that would be beautiful.  I have purchased all my Ligularies at the
nursery for arounf $4.00 Canadian, in a 4 inch pot... they take off really
well and transplanted very well.  They need room to grow though..

I also have the same rule in my garden, except it is 3 times in one place
then 3 times in another place and then one more time for 3 times in another
place... so sometimes it has taken me 9 years to find out that I will never
grow that plant.  The other thing that I also have a rule about is that I
don't
push my zone by more than 2... so the highest zone I will go to is Zone 5
hardiness... that way I don't have to many disappointments.
