Diann, in that bed I don't bother to amend the soil any more. I've been
working on it for years, adding various good things, and it wasn't bad to
start with (other gardeners have been here before me). So, after 20 plus
years, it's great! But I don't think there is such a thing, most places,
as "naturally good soil"--just soil that some gardener has slaved over for
years.
Jennifer, would you please tell us how you divide these mysterious
creatures? Go into detail and use words of one syllable that even I can
understand.
