Re: How deep for Ajuga barrier??

I'd go more than 2 inches above ground. I have some 'tree slices' that I
have as paths through my garden. The top surface of these are about 2
inches above the soil level. One of these paths has Ajuga on both sides
of it. Right now I cannot find these 'slices'. The Ajuga has totally
covered them over. I guess this also shows that Ajuga will grow just
about anywhere - even on top of wood!

4 inches might be better, but the runners still might climb over that.
As indcated by others, it is very easy to cut/remove any that creep into
areas where they are not wanted. One benefit of this is the cuttings can
be used as more plants for other areas. That is what I am doing right
now. All the Ajuga that has strayed into areas where I don't want it
anymore is being removed for other areas both in my garden and a new
planting area at my mother's house.

These babies can spread so prolifically that the new ones you buy can be
planted at least a foot apart. In about a year they will have filled in
quite nicely. Take a look at what you buy. There may be several plants
in one pot that can then be divided into several plants. I had bought a
flat of Burgundy Glow (not as prolific) and found that what was in some
of the cells were dividable.

P.S. In the spring you will see numerous flower spikes. From my
experience, you don't need to worry about removing these spikes. They
disappear all by themselves.
