I would think B sinensis is as hardy as grandis, Narda.
Big thing would be to keep it well drained in the winter. I have not had
sinensis in my garden as long as I have had grandis, so I can not swear by
my word. Mine are on a hillside in fairly decent soil with humus and a mulch
of chopped leaves. I suppose they would go well with hosta, but I like spiky
things coming up our of them, green dragon (Arisaema dracontium) and Arum.,
especially tall narrow ferns, or toadlilies. Each to his own when it comes
to design.
You comments about one more thing to get hooked on in the garden is the
noise all of us while we make the trip to the next nursery;-)
