Re: [SG] Daylilies / Now False Solomon' s Seal

Hello Bob,
Sounds as though you have found one of our lovely wildflowers known as
False Solomon's Seal (smilacina racemosa). Great plant for shade or
woodland garden. Nice arching stems of deep green foliage. Large racemes of
white flowers that light up a dark corner. The berries continually change
colors from green-gold to a red s they mature. foliage stays around until a
hard frost. Mine are under a dogwood tree reflecting the white blooms of
the dogwood down into the understory plants. I have mine with Yellow
Trilliums, Lady Ferns, Hosta in gold, green-white variegated, plain green
with a ground cover of white blooming Omphalodies. Later in the season
Gentian add blue blooms and the Toad Lilies give orchid-like blooms of
lavender speckles over white and pale pink.
It is easy to grow and forms rather large clumps over time where it is
happy. Seeds generally take two years to germinate and about three more
until first blooms.
