The Hydrangea macrophylla 'Nikko Blue' is not hardy in zone 5. Its lower limit
is Z6.
A suggestion: Replant in a protected location. Fertilize it next spring
heavily with a balanced fertilizer. When leaves emerge, scratch in Aluminium
Sulphate. (This one needs an ACID soil.)
