Hydrangea is only marginally hardy in Zone 4 and 5. To overwinter correctly
it should be cut back 4-6 inches from the ground and adequately mulched even
with a "rose collar" if possible, this will ensure sufficient flowering buds
will come through the winter.
Another hardy hydrangea with an equally impressive flowering period is the
PG Hydrangea a shrubform, with blooms suitable for preservation in dried
bouquets.
