Hi Tamara,
Your physical charms are exceeded only by your good taste in plants.;-))
The most beautiful blues found in the plant world, in my humble opinion,
are on Gentiana. I can never figure out why everyone does not have them in
their gardens. There is a species or hybrid for every month of summer, fall
and into early winter. No more difficult to grow than any other perennial.
Also species for shade or for sun and some will take both.
They begin for me in July and will be in bloom when hard frost comes in
October and will last through that in the first of November in some
seasons. Bottle shaped blooms, trumpet shaped blooms, tall ones, short
ones, pancakes all in shades of beautiful blue.
I wrote an article on the summer and fall blooming gentians for gardens in
this region and it will be appearing in the Ohio Valley Chapter of the
North American Rock Garden Society newsletter in September. I am happy to
hear you are please with your Gentian.
To answer your question on Balloon Flowers, yes they can and will take
some shade. I have some in high, open shade and they do just fine.
