Hi all,
H. macrophylla pruning is ..some say... an art. I read everything I
could get my hands on, (since I'd done it alllll wrong a time or two)
and compiled the info on my site. It's just as you describe
"entirely remove older branches that have already blossomed and leave
younger strong stems which have yet to produce blossoms". This, and
the "remove 1/3 of the stems each year" policy seems to work for the
plants here.
