Marian,
I use the 1/2" hardware cloth. I have made a wooden frame that sits on top
of my wheelbarrow and can sift it directly in. I can see where you would
think this would be too small, it does take rubbing the compost around to
sift it through, but I love what I get when I am done.
I don't know if anyone remembers, but a couple of months ago I asked about
starting tiarellas from seed. I had two hybrids I purchased late in the
season (T. 'Iron Butterfly' and 'Herronswood Mist') and they had seed pods on
them. The seed took about 4 weeks to germinate, but I have about 25 nice
seedliings which are growing rapidly. There are many different leaf shapes
and colors and I am really excited to see what they look like as they mature.
