Re: Pawpaws

Greetings from flatland Champaign, IL, U.S.A.

in my experience.

Texture of foliage is significantly different in texture. Bald Cypress
finer.

Bald Cypress more prone to "spider" mites.

Bald Cypress slightly faster grower.

Bald Cypress more hardy of sudden swings to cold temperatures.

Bald Cypress slightly more prone to lightning strike damage.

I agree with Betty that pawpaw trees are delightful but I'm not sure I
could handle the fruit. Did someone say that animals eat it if people
don't? That wouldn't be so bad, if SOMEONE ate it.

Am thinking about a dawn redwood or maybe a baldcypress. Can anyone
discuss the pros and cons of each? They both seem to have the same basic
characteristic of losing their needles in fall. Both are large. The
baldcypress seems to be more difficult to obtain, even though it is a
native tree.
